HAMPTON WRESTLING ASSOCIATION MEETING MINUTES – OCTOBER 3RD, 2024
· Meeting called to order at 6:35pm with 16 attendees and 1 virtual attendee
· President Gretchen Bennett introduced herself to everyone
· Coaches’ Reports
o Ed Barry – Hampton Girls Wrestling Club Head Coach
§ Girls Try It Night was a success
§ 17 girls attended (2 were veteran wrestlers)
§ As of the meeting, 4 girls signed up / 3-4 additional girls committed verbally to Coach Endres
§ Hopeful for 75% participation from Try It Night
o Nick Endres – Boys Varsity Head Coach
§ October 17th will be the first Preseason Workout (3:15pm – 4:15pm)
§ Boys & Girls – 7th to 12th grade – HS Wrestling Room
§ Will occur each Thursday until season starts
§ MyHouse Warmups – shared designs with attendees (considering same for all levels)
§ Shared T-Shirt designs for the wrestlers – considering at Black or White shirt this season
§ This Season’s Motto: Deserve Nothing / Earn Everything
§ A 13th Dog Duals team was added – Mars
Penn Hills wanted to add as 14, but keeping at 13 schools for now
§ 17 Deer Lakes students have signed up so far (unsure if boys or girls or MS / HS)
§ Introduction Meeting will be October 7th at HS Auditorium for any interested wrestlers
§ Official start to wrestling season for WPIAL – November 15th, 2024
o Joe Bursick – Boys Middle School Head Coach
§ 4 Dual Meets this year
§ Possible Tournaments this year:
§ 12/21 – Ellwood City (13 teams committed so far) No Seneca Valley tournament this year
January Duals
§ 1/4/25 – Slippery Rock 1/18 – Peters Twp 1/24-25 – Monroeville
§ Coaching Staff at 5 members, including Ken Hasselrig, John Hollibaugh, Joe Verzelli and Ed Barry – trying to get Mark Gartner involved if possible
§ Currently 16 signups of 7th & 8th graders – possibly upwards of 7 girls
§ If anyone has MS singlets, please return – we only have 23 on hand (need 30)
o Chris Ruggeri – Youth Head Coach
§ Coaching staff will be around 15 members this year – many returning from last season
§ 53 total youth wrestlers signed up
§ Grade K – 1: 18 Total Grade 2 – 4: 27 Total
Grade 5 – 6: 7 Total
§ Practice schedules leaning towards Option 2 that was presented – seems best option
§ Possible Intersquad Practices on Fridays w/ other Youth clubs
§ Possible remote weigh-ins at Hampton for local youth tournaments
o Emma Bursick Tournament
§ 15U Opening – could it work? (PIAA – no varsity wrestlers eligible)
§ Comments from last year to take away hard start time for 2nd session
§ Coach Bursick was open to suggestions – have to run past Frank
o Treasurer’s Report – Greg Hunkele
§ Account software is up to date / last 2 years have been reconciled
§ 1 Open Check & 1 Missing Check (cancelled) – Greg has all others
§ Gretchen / Greg have debit cards
§ Prefer to use checks for tracking purposes
§ Goal is to move all funds from Venmo / Cash into checking by end of October
§ Online Banking / Mobile deposit is now available
o Fundraising
§ Talbot Tailgate – financially a flop but for registration was a success
§ 3 Sumo suits were broken / popped – couldn’t use mats due to weather
§ Night at the Races – most dates are available right now
§ Shoot for end of season (Jan / Feb)
§ Possibly a Groundhog Day or St. Patrick’s Theme to match with date?
§ Stromboli’s – most profitable fundraising for HWA – it’s on again!
· Had a lengthy discussion regarding committees and heads – attached worksheet for reference
· Next meeting was agreed on at 10/28 at 6:30pm at the HHS Old Library again
· Meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm
